Board selection
Regular, moisture-resistant, fire-rated or sound-rated board chosen for where it is going.
Framing check
Studs checked for straightness and backing added before board goes up.
Hanging
Sheets hung and fastened at the spacing the assembly requires, with joints planned.
Taping and compound
Taped and coated in the number of passes the finish level calls for.
Corner beads
Metal or paper-faced beads on every outside corner, set straight.
Sanding and dust control
Sanded with extraction and containment so the dust does not reach the rest of the house.
Texture or smooth finish
Smooth, knockdown or stipple, matched where it meets existing ceilings.
Patching and repair
Holes, water damage and cracked corners repaired to blend into the existing wall.
Priming
Primed ready for paint so the finish coat does not flash at the joints.
