Assessment before adding
We look for air leakage and moisture first, because insulating over either makes it worse.
Air sealing
Top plates, penetrations and hatches sealed, which usually does more than the insulation itself.
Attic insulation
Blown or batt insulation topped up to the depth the Code requires, with baffles keeping the vents clear.
Wall insulation
Cavity fill in existing walls and batt or board in open walls.
Spray foam
Closed and open cell foam installed by spray-foam applicators where the assembly calls for it.
Basement and rim joist
Rim joists and foundation walls insulated with the vapour control the assembly requires.
Crawl space insulation
Walls or floor insulated depending on whether the crawl space is inside the envelope.
Ventilation check
Attic intake and exhaust confirmed so the new insulation does not cause condensation.
Clean-up and depth markers
Site cleaned and depth markers left in the attic so the work can be verified.
